A city in Jones County and Taylor County in West Texas, Abilene has an estimated population of more than 117,100 residents, making it the state of Texas’ 27th most populous city.  The county seat of Taylor County, it is a prominent part of the Abilene Metropolitan Statistical Area and connected by Loop 322, US 83/84 and I-20.

Home to three lakes - Kirby Lake, Lytle Lake and Lake Fort Phantom Hill - the economy of the city was primarily based on the agriculture and livestock sectors in the past. However, since then it has evolved and is now based on manufacturing, government, healthcare and education. The petroleum industry is also booming and incentives have been established to attract new businesses to Abilene.

The city’s logistic function and civic progressiveness as a regional hub for education, distribution, transportation, commerce and industry provides residents and visitors with an array of shopping, lodging, cultural and dining opportunities. Abilene has a vast park system consisting of 29 parks and 3 athletic complexes.

In addition, the Abilene Zoo is also a famous attraction in the city, which attracts hundreds of visitors’ everyday with its exhibits of various animals from different species.  A number of events are also held throughout the year, such as the Western Heritage Classic, the West Texas Fair and Artwalk. As for education, the city is served by two school districts, namely the Wylie Independent School District and Abilene Independent School District.
